Lightbulbs

As far as I can tell, no one wants used incandescent lightbulbs, and they are non-recyclable. I did find a cool craft project that makes a Christmas ornaments out of them, so that's one option.

Flourescents, which should all be using now as they are far more energy efficient, are a different story. Companies like Energy Star have a built-in recycling center at many stores and offer 50 cents for each qualifying bulb that you recycle. IKEA stores are now accepting used flourescent bulbs for recycling as well. They are probably also welcome in your local hazardous waste dropoff.

North Carolina, Chapel Hill: WXYC 89.3 notes that they're "always running through incandescent lightbulbs." If you're in the area and feeling sporty, why not buy these guys some long-lasting Energy Star bulbs and stop all that waste? They need pens, computers, headphones, and a few other things, too.
