Who Am I?
And why did I put up this site?
An excellent question.
I put up this site because when I have an item I no longer want I spend
a lot of time trying to figure out what to do with it so it doesn't end
up in the trash. I do this because of a natural sense of thrift, a
concern for the environment, and a maddening desire for efficiency. I
asked myself: why shouldn't others benefit from my obsession? That's
when I decided to put up this site.
It is my hope that stuffyadontwant.com will help people find homes for
their unwanted items. That said, I am not planning on listing every
thrift store and Salvation Army in the country; you can locate those on
your own. I am trying to provide outlets that you might not otherwise
know about for specific items. A particular focus of SYDW is on items
that you thought had no future beyond the landfill, such as crayons,
styrofoam peanuts, and wire hangers.
I also hope that going through this process will inspire an increased
sense of responsibility about the acquisition process, and cause people
to really think about whether they need something before they get it.
Recycling and reusing is great, but "precycling" -- not buying
something because you realize you don't need it (hey, it's a term I
just created, which I hope catches on) -- is the most environmentally
sound choice of all.

What can you do right now to help the environment? Drop a line to save some of nature's BioGems.

It happens to us all: you've got
stuff you
don't
want anymore, don't need anymore, or never liked to begin with. Whether
you're motivated by a natural sense
of thrift, an environmental conscience, a desire to help others -- or
all three -- here are some suggestions as to what to do with many of
your unwanted items.
Hope they help!
